I attempted to order a panel and am getting the error messages below when I try to start the ordering program. I had just ordered some other panels a week or so ago and had no problems. It happens if I select 'order the current panel' or 'start the ordering program'. This is on a windows 7 machine and it's fpd 4.31. I tried re-booting my PC and also re-installing FPD. Any idea what the issue might be?

I am sorry you are having trouble with our ordering program. Thank you very much for the detailed error description. I already created a ticket for our IT department and will let you know as soon as I hear back.
However, this shouldn't delay your project. Please email us the files you would like to order from. We can set up the order manually for you.

Is it possible to engrave the reverse side of a pannel?
I have some feed-trough connectors I would like to label: From X and To Y.
I can't really see why this would be a trouble, I think I would have to send 2 files, since the software doesn't seem to support it by itself but just wanted to make sure.

It is not a problem at all. Our developer version of Front Panel Designer already can handle this and we will release this function soon.
In the meantime please create a second file and have us combine it for you. There will be of course no charge for this. Please make sure you consider that you look at the back of the part when you create the second file. We will make sure everything gets mirrored accordingly.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Has the system been updated to create a Backside yet? Or do I need to create a second file still?

We haven't had an update since February and the back side engraving was not included.
My apologies for the delay. It is pushed up to a higher priority.

I would like to know if anybody has any example of the results of 0.2mm engraved text infilled. I have somme small print I have to infill and would like to know if the result will be OK if engraved at 0.2mm.

What font do you have in mind? In case you want to go with a single stroke font such as DIN17 you can go as small as 1.5mm (.06") in text height.
Fonts with several strokes (Helvetica Bold) won't turn out as detailed when so small. You shouldn't go smaller than 2mm (.08") with this font.
A good way to check how an engraving turns out is to print your design in 100% scale. The printed result is comparable to the machined look.
We also look at each design before it goes on the machine floor. We contact you if your design wouldn't turn out well.

Basically, I'd like to create a panel that is an octagon. However I need the 45 degree corners different sizes. The only way I can see to do this is to place a rectangle at 45 degrees and extend it over the edges to look like the corners have been cut off. Is this the only way?

There is a better way. You can import the exterior shape.
Front Panel Designer won't let you trim or extend. Our software is not meant to be a complex CAD program. We would like to keep it as simple as possible and therefore allow imports.
Any other CAD program will do to clean up the exterior shape you would need. Please save it as a dxf file and simply import it into Front Panel Designer. Check out one of our webinars at 1:20. There it talks about importing into Front Panel Designer.
However, the method you described works as well. We would clean up the file for you instead. Please don't hesitate to call or email us. We are more than happy to walk you through the process.

I am using the Linux software. It's great and I am very thankful that you are supporting Linux, however when I select "Start Ordering Program", nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing? I sure hope there is another option to complete my order.

Something seems to be broken. What Linux package do you use? I will forward this post to our IT department and the more details you can provide the easier the troubleshooting for them.
In the meantime, you can always place orders via email. Just attach your fpd files, send to email@example.com and have us call you for payment information.
My apologies for the inconvenience. I hope we can have this fixed asap.

Thanks for the help.
I am using the .deb package, latest version 4.31. I've tried on two seperate computers using both the 32bit and 64bit binaries (one computer is a 32bit OS, other is 64bit OS). My OS in Linux Mint 16.

It would be so nice to print the panel with a "reverse side" view. So you are looking at it as if you flipped the panel over and are working on the under side of it. This would be such a huge help !!
I constantly have to print out a panel then trace all the lines flip the paper over and re-trace all the lines so I can look at the panel from the other side. It takes me so much time to do this and I loose accuracy doing it.
That's the one and only wish I have but would really love to have this option.

Thank you for your feedback. It's on the way to our software developers. I can't promise that it will come with the next update but I can see why his could be a very helpful option.
Thank you for helping us improving Front Panel Designer.
