is it possible to have a rounded edge cavity... (not only 4 corners, but actual cavity walls)
in other words, kind a "U" shape or half "O" type cavity,
side views ( U is my cavity)
| U |
top view ( ii is my cavity)
| ii |

When starting FPD, I get an error window indicating a problem with my user macros:
"Macro object database error:Macro objects are not available (26: SQLITE_NOTADB: file is encrypted or is not a database)"
C:\Program Files (x86)\FrontDesign\Macros.fm(read only)
The last entry points to a directory where I store our custom macros. It contains 1 file:
I suspect this is an old, and now unsupported format (a guess).
If I click OK to the dialog, FPD starts normally, however, there are no User macros listed in the Macros objects sidebar.
Is there a way to use my seemingly ancient, but coveted, macro file?

I am very sorry for the late response. My inbox must have eaten the forum notification.
You can import old macro files by right-clicking on the "user" folder in the macro object window.
Happy New Year!

I am designing a large panel which is compromised of 2 panels joined together in the middle. I have the entire left half done with all the cut outs done. Some are over the edge and must match perfectly with the other half. Is it possible to mirror the entire left panel to make the right half so it matches up perfectly with left half? Hope that makes sense.

That must be a large design because our machines can handle 1170 x 870mm.
Front Panel Designer has a mirroring function. You can find it under 'Selection' in the toolbar. You can mirror horizontally or vertically. There are also a couple of options for the mirror axis. I like to mirror around 'Position of mirror axis.' Lets say you have the left side of your panel done and want to mirror it to the right. You want to place the origin of the panel on the right edge, select all the objects, choose mirror, select 'Position of mirror axis', enter '0' and check 'Apply to copy'. Now you can cut and paste the mirrored objects on a second panel.
However, all text will be mirrored too. You can fix that in the object properties (shft+crt+o). Just select all engravings and delete the minus in front of the x-scaling. Tip: make sure your text is aligned to center, otherwise it will take some time to mirror everything back.
I hope that is what you were looking for.

I need to have a thick panel made with drilled and tapped holes coming in from the side and from the top and bottom.
Also holes on the ends as well. FPD only shows holes on the front. How would I show holes on the ends?

Please design additional Front Panel Designer files for the sides, bottom and top and select 'customer provided material.'
Please also leave a note for us indicating which side it is and how to set up the part on the machine if not symmetrical.

I thought that might be the way to do it, but I wanted to be sure.
However why do I click "customer provided material". FPE has material thick enough.

The material is already paid for with your regular front panel. No need to charge you twice ;-) However the setup of the sides is a little more effort. You can see that in the different amount for preparing and finishing in the pricing.

I am looking for the read me or user manual for this program I downloaded through the HBT site. Is a manual available and I am overlooking it or is it online somewhere? TIA for any direction you folks have.

Front Panel Designer has an online help menu. You will be able to access it as soon as you have installed the software.
I am sorry for the late response. Please let me know if you have any further question. Our forum is the perfect platform to discuss questions about Front Panel Designer or our machining service more in detail.

Would it be possible to add a feature where I can import a file in some format (for example, comma-separated value table) that contains X,Y coordinates for holes? Many panels I design require fairly a large number of holes and the possibility of making a mistake goes up when manually entering them.
Ideally, I'd like to see the ability to read in a CSV table that has X,Y locations and hole attributes (diameter, threaded, countersunk) and the software will add these holes to the current design.

Let me discuss this with our software developers.
However, have you tried the dxf import? Front Panel Designer offers two different dxf file imports. One for the shape of the panel (outer perimeter) and the other for objects placed on the panel.
The outer shape can be defined in the object properties of the front panel when you start a new project. The other is called "free contour" and can be found in the toolbar.
You can import complex hole patterns with "free contour" very easily.
I hope this helps in the meantime or might be even a better way to import your design in Front Panel Designer.
