Occasionally, a customer needs text or other objects placed on the back side of their panel. While we are currently working on implementing this process into a future <i>Front Panel Designer</i> update, this newsletter will address how to place objects, namely text, on the back of the panel in the current software version. </td> </tr> </tbody></table></P> <font size="2" face="arial"><P ALIGN="justify"> There are currently two methods for placing objects on the back side of your panel. Which method works best depends on the complexity of your design and location of the objects being placed on the back side of the panel. </P> </font> <font size="2" face="arial"color="#27a2d0"><P ALIGN="justify"><b>X-scaling=-1</b><br/></font><font size="2" face="arial"> Using this method, you will design the panel as usual. When placing an object, other than a cavity, countersink or blind hole, on the back side of the panel, you will position it in the equivalent spot on the front side of the panel. Once your object or text is designed, change the X-scaling to -1. This will show the object "backwards" on the panel. Then, leave a note in the "Remarks" section within Front Panel Properties to let us know which objects need to be milled on the back side of the panel. </P> </font> <center><a href="http://www.frontpanelexpress.com/fileadmin/email/21_February_2011/X-scaling.png"target="_blank"><img height="351" border="0" width="350" src="http://www.frontpanelexpress.com/fileadmin/email/21_February_2011/X-scaling.png" alt="X-Scaling = -1" title="X-Scaling = -1"/></a></center> </br> <font size="2" face="arial"><P ALIGN="justify"> Obviously, if you have a lot of text on the back, or if the text on the back of the panel intersects with object on the front, this can get confusing. </P> </font> <font size="2" face="arial"color="#27a2d0"><P ALIGN="justify"><b>Two Files = One Panel</b><br/></font><font size="2" face="arial"> If you are placing a significant amount of text on the back of the panel, or objects on the front and back interfere with one another, we suggest creating a separate file for the back side of the panel. When designing the additional file, keep in mind that you are working on the back side of the panel, so the objects and reference points on the front of the panel are now reflected horizontally. There is a small charge for the time involved in repositioning the panel on the machines to mill on the back side.
