A/V connectors?
Noob here, just getting rolling. Are there any libraries of standard A/V connector templates? RCA-audio, RCA-Component, XLR, HDMI, etc.? Could not find them in the downloaded program as shipped.

Hi Noob,
Thank you for downloading Front Panel Designer and checking it out. The standard library only goes so far with some common cutouts, including XLR connectors.
However, it is very easy to create your own library. Our tutorial, How to Create Macro Elements in Front Panel Designer shows how to create it in detail.
Best regards,
Diane

Anodize Post-Processing
I would like to order a black anodized plate with a hole pattern and engraved lettering. The ideal finished product would be an orange finish on all cut surfaces (holes, edges and lettering) and black everywhere else. Since other parts in the assembly will be orange anodized, it would be ideal to plate the finished panels with the other components as a batch. How would an additional anodizing pass affect the original black finish?

Hello Bryan,
Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry.
It is potentially possible to accomplish what you are looking for with a very specialized anodizing process at a facility dedicated to these practices.
At Front Panel Express, our focus is on providing the highest quality surface finish possible, and to this end, all of our sheets come pre-anodized. This allows us to pick out any flaws in a sheet of material before machining, and we are able to keep the highest level of quality.
One way to attain a similar look to what you're after would be to begin with a sheet of orange acrylic, then paint the top surface black, then have us perform the machining.
Alternatively, you could layer a very thin layer of black aluminum on top of a thicker layer of orange aluminum to create a similar effect (orange infilling on the black panel engravings would have to suffice).
If we can provide any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Feature Request: Prompt to print cart.
--A prompt to print the shopping cart (with order number) just after placing the order would be nice.
Or perhaps, the instant auto-generated email that is sent by FPE should include a copy of the order.
I realize that the fine sales-folks at FPE do eventually send a confirmation with all the details. It just happens that right at the time of ordering is the most convenient time to staple stuff to our PO (in our very-paper-based office).

Hello Chris,
Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry.
For a handy bit of paperwork to staple to your PO, you may consider including copies of the pricing sheet printable from Front Panel Designer.
At the time of ordering, there is a prompt asking if you would like to save your shopping cart, and I would recommend saving it with the appropriate PO number, then it can be reopened and printed at any time.
Let us know if we can provide any additional assistance.

Small size cable glands
Hello, please tell me how to make holes with thread, for PG7 and PG9 cable glands.
Posted By: Zinaida Lyubimova on Mar 26, 2012 08:49PM Category: Front Panel Designer
Hello Zinaida,
Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry.
The angle on PG threads is a little bit unusual in that it is 80 degrees, while most other threads are 60 degrees.
We do not have an 80 degree threader in stock, but we can special order one if necessary. In Front Panel Designer, you would want to leave us notes in the Remarks for Production about which holes would require the special threader, then you could use the following settings below to get the correct object onto your panel:
The PG7 threaded hole has the following parameters:
Outer diameter: 12.5 mm
Pitch: 1.27
This can be inserted in our software using the UNF (Unified Fine) 1/2" - 20 thread.
The PG9 threaded hole has the following parameters:
Outer diameter: 15.2mm
Pitch: 1.411
This hole should be made by selecting the "manual thread parameters" in the drill hole properties, then entering a diameter of 15.2mm and a thread pitch of 1.411 mm.
Do note that the PG thread standard has been considered obsolete for about a decade, and most cable glands should be available in standard metric threads.
If we can provide any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Problems with free contour
hi, it seems i cant import curves from a dxf file with the free contour feature??
Im making some curves in Ilustrator and export in DXF then with free contour trying to import but i get an error, doesnt tell which error, just an error.
Its weird because with the same ilustrator i make a square or even a star and export it in DXf then import it with the free contour option and it works.
It seems i cant get the curves working, anyone could help me?

Hello,
Would it be possible to get the Illustrator file from you? It may have something to do with the shape of the contour and I would like to reproduce the error myself.
Can you please email it to info@frontpanelexpress.com to my attention?
I am sorry for the inconvenience. I am sure I will have a solution as soon as I had a chance to have a look at your dxf.
Best regards,
Diane

How to make this shape
Hello im wondering how to make this panel shape. I mean the outline.
Thanks in advance
Posted By: david gutierrez on Mar 19, 2012 07:23AM Category: Front Panel Designer
Hello David,
Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry.
In order to make this panel shape, you would start with a rectangular panel containing the outside dimensions that you need, then add four rectangular cutouts along the edges for the screw slots.
It is permissible to overlap objects in our software with the edge of the panel, so a rectangular cutout with large corner radii can be used for these objects.
Additionally, if you have a DXF available for this object, and you can remove everything that is not the perimeter shape, this contour can be imported into our software using the Free Contour shape when creating a new panel.
If we can provide any additional assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.
