Text over Engraving Line
Hi,
Is there a way to make a text go over an engraved line instead of crossing this line.
So if i make a engraved rectangle the text will go over the line instead of crossing the line.
I've attached an example, with on the left side a rectangle with the text crossing the line, and on the right a self made rectangle (with lines) and the text going "over" the line.
Making a rectangle with lines is not an easy way of doing it, not at all if you want serval rectangles on the frontpanel :)..

Hello,
Front Panel Designer offers basic shapes such as circles, rectangles and lines. In addition you can import graphics with the 'Insert HPGL Engraving' tool.
Here are some tips and a tutorial how it works:

In your case it is probably best to add a couple of lines. It's easy when you use the snap function.

ReplyDear Diane,
Thank you for your fast reply.
Unfortunately because of text width is changing when other texts are put in, it's becoming a real pain to fast and cleanly put the text on my frontpanels.
I'm looking for a way to make connection panels with such layouts that there's a rectangle around my connectors with text centered in the top line of the rectangle.
Because of various connector types i don't have space to put it on top or below the lines of the rectangles.
And when the width of the text changing, i can't really make a macro object that's sets a standard, because then the gap spaced between the line will be to big if there is a small word (like IN or OUT), and to large when there is a big word (like LINKED or PARALLEL).Posted By: Dave on Mar 29, 2016 01:04AM

Selective edge machining vs whole perimeter
I would like a 1.5mm radius on my front panel top and bottom, but not the sides. Is it possible to select individual edges? In the picture you can see in green the way I want it.

You can't select individual edges but we can machine to your specifications based on your notes.
Easiest way would be requesting a quote through the ordering tool in Front Panel Designer and attach your drawing to the shopping cart. This way we can add the additional programming fee (usually around $20) and confirm your special request.
Or just call our customer service at 1-800-373-9060 and they will walk you through.

Machining for side edge
Hello,
I would like to make M3 holes on the side for 6mm thickness plate.
Is it possible?Posted By: Takashi Hori on Mar 20, 2016 04:19AM Category: Front Panel Designer
Hello,
Yes, this is possible. Please have a look here under 'machined edges"'

ReplyI've got a relevant question. I'm wanting to do this on multiples of the same part and have read the "machined edges" section, which states to create a new file with the dimensions of the side you wish to machine, and choose "customer supplied material".
What occurs is a handling fee is added to each instance, which seems to be as high as the material was to begin with. This seems to add up to quite a substantial figure (just to add two holes to an edge). Am I doing something wrong, or is that just the way it is?Posted By: avian on Mar 28, 2016 01:51PM
ReplyThe handling fee is for clamping and finding the corner of your part. Each edge has to be setup individually to be accurate.
In your case the setup of the part takes actually longer than the machining time, which is reflected in pricing.
I hope this helps to understand the pricing.

Concerning Type 1/2 Housing disclosures
Looking to configure and order several of your enclosures - Type 1 or 2 Housing profile enclosures.
My needs include a heat sink on each side of enclosure. I have already configured case using FPE tool, increasing width to accomodate my own heat sink - which runs 10 inches x 3in high.
My question --
In lieu of standard side panels --- Do you offer heat sink side panels of any type.
Thanks

Hi Bob,
I am sorry but we do not offer any heat sink panels. However, we can customize yours if needed.
Thank you,

Import pdf or dwg file
Hi, is there a way to import a pdf or dwg file (or other vector format) into Front Panel Designer? Thanks!

Hi,
You can import dxf or svg files with the "free contour" tool. You can also import plt files for complex engravings with the "HPGL engraving" tool.
We have a couple of tutorials on YouTube.

3d import
Are you ever going to have a 3d import for your program. Most people that are designing panels or enclosures are designing with Solidworks or some other 3d software. Do you plan to add 3d import to your software?

3d import is not planned for the near future (2016.) However, it is on the project parking lot.
Thank you,
