I am attempting to create an instrument panel and would like to know the best way to create both a 3 1/8 and 2 1/4 instrument hole with the 4 screw holes in the proper locations. I don't see a macro shape or any example templates to use.

We have a couple of similar objects in our macro object library but nothing with the dimensions you mentioned.
However, it is very easy to create it yourself. You can place the origin of the instrument panel on the center of the 3 1/8 hole and position the screw holes from there. Here is a simple how-to:
1. draw the 3 1/8 hole
2. click on 'origin' in the toolbar (snap toolbar opens)
3. click on 'based on reference point based on an object' in snap toolbar
4. click on center of 3 1/8 hole
5. click on 'insert drill hole' in toolbar
6. click on snap tool bar 'relative to the reference of an object' and click on center of 3 1/8 hole.
7. enter coordinates for the screw hole
8. enter diameter of hole (new dialog opens after step 7)
From there you can mirror around the center of the 3 1/8 hole or just repeat step 7 and 8. When you are done you can group the holes and create a macro object for your user library (Shift+m).

When initially using the Front Panel Designer work station, I had a problem understanding the exact purpose of the 3rd icon on the pop-out origin selection bar. The pop-up description for that icon states "Enter coordinates based on the reference point of a object". I did not and still don't understand that language. I would instead use "Enter coordinates to be in common with the reference point of an object". Basically, the coordinates of the new object to be the same as the coordinates of the selected existing object.

The wording can be confusing since you don't have to enter any coordinates at all. As you stated, it means basically to add another object to the same location of another object.
Thank you for your feedback.

It's been working for 3 months, but now it opens its window for a few seconds and then it's gone. Windows task manager says it's running, but nothing is visible. I've erased, restarted and reloaded four times...

Does this happen when you open FPD through a fpd file or by opening the software itself?
I am guessing you have a corrupted file. Can you send the file to me?

Both. And the files open OK in another computer.

Hmmmm, I still want to rule out the actual fpd file. Would you mind sending it to me?
Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience

Another clue: At startup (PC startup; Front Panel is off), the PC says
Visual C++ runtime library
The application requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way

The files you sent to me worked fine on my system. Thank you for the additional info. I sent it to the developers and will let you know as soon as I hear back.

When I try to print to 100% size on panels that require more than one sheet of paper FPE will only print the first page. It will not tile print. Sometimes it will not even show a preview and tell me zero pages required. This is recent and only started happening when I updated to the latest version.

I tried to reproduce the error you described but everything worked fine on my end. I doubt that has anything to do with the file itself rather than printer settings. However, we should rule that out first. Can you please email me the file you were trying to print? I would like to see if it works for me.
Do you have another printer in your setting you could try? A pdf printer maybe? What operating system do you use?
I am sorry for the inconvenience and hope we can resolve this issue quickly.

I've sent off the last two files I tried to print, as well a pdf of one of them. The pdf is fine.
I'm using an HP printer, OS is windows XP

I am trying to generate a macro or set of macros for TYCO CPC connectors. I do not see a clear description of how you go about doing this.

Duh, never mind.

I hope it all worked out for you. We have a tutorial about macro objects.
You can also create your own for future use. Just group all the objects you would like to save as a macro, select 'create macro object' from 'selection' and follow the dialog.
