I just installed v4.2. Opened a file and modified it. I saved the file, and closed it. Now when I try to open it I get a file is corrupt error. It has happened on three files in total now.

I am having the same problem. Has happened with 4 files already. Program does not seem to be as stable. Crashed a number of times. Getting exception errors. Coping and pasting not working with groupings.

I have a front view I made with Adobe Illustrator MAC OSX (CS5 15.1.0) and I would to import it for order to Front panel express, but it doesn't works or I don't know I do that.
I try to open my dxf or dwg with frontdesign but it told me this is not a front panel !! somebody tell me if this the good condition or if I make a mistake.

You can't open dxf files with Front Panel Designer but you can import such files.
The dxf import has two options. One is only for the contour of the front panel and the other for objects placed on the panel. One of our newsletters describes this more in detail. Newsletter
I hope that helps.

Unfortunately, Front Panel Designer can't read ai files but we can :)
Please don't get frustrated with the import. Our customer service team can help you to get started with your project and do the import for you. Just email your design to email@example.com.

I'll jump on this thread rather than starting a new one. I'm using FrontDesign for OSX for the first time. I have created a DXF file for a cutout in Illustrator CS5.1 and I get an error trying to import it into FrontDesign. The error is: "Unknown Error: DXF - Spline is non-rational & weighted, Result may have wrong shape." I have tried various settings during the export and import process and can't get it to work. I can send in the ai and dxf if that would be helpful? It's just one closed linear shape, nothing fancy.

Of course Robert. Go ahead and send it to me. I am more than happy to have a look and find out what the problem is.
You can send the file(s) to firstname.lastname@example.org (my attention) or directly to my email given in my profile.

When I enetr a thru hole, regardless of size, the depth dialog sub-box is grayed out with a 1.27 depth dimension. So while the pictorial cleary shows that I am creating a thru hole, this does leave me with a bit of angst. Especially as I am a new user. Would perhaps be nice, for clarity and completesness, if the "insert drill hole" clearly specified "thru hole" per selection.

A thru hole is a thru hole no matter what is grayed out. However, I'm with you. It would make me nervous as well.
This dialog window remembers your last settings. For instance, check "blind hole". This will make "depth" available. Now enter 0 and uncheck "blind hole". Close the dialog and reopen it. You see the depth is now 0.
It can be very handy to have the last settings remembered instead of set back to default. A grayed out box has no impact, always go with the preview.
I hope this makes sense.

Import logo as dxf or plt files to engrave it, however it doesn't appear in preview window.
What is wrong?
Posted By: victors on Apr 23, 2013 06:34PM Category: Front Panel Designer
There might be an issue with the processing of your data during the import. I would need to see the file to find out what is wrong. Can you please email it to me at email@example.com?
I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm designing an enclosure and was wondering if it is possible to have a rectangle which also includes text in the geometry. Much like this:
...with "INPUT" being the "title" of everything included in the box.
I guess it could be done with separate engraving lines (i.e. 5 lines and a text engraving), but I was wondering if there's an easier way.
Thanks in advance!

You can design it with separate engraving lines or you can prepare all engravings in a graphic program such as Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw and import it as a plt file.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Diane.
I think it'll be faster to just use separate engraving lines, add text and then group everything together.
Trouble starts when you have to resize the box. :D

I am trying to import the Hypex Ncore logo into FPD as a cavity, but it does noet work. Could it be because they are seperate cutouts in one file???

There could be several reasons. The best way for us to help you with a logo import would be sending the files to us (firstname.lastname@example.org)

I am glad it worked for you.
My Dutch is very limited so I couldn't understand the post you linked to.
Please use the Front Panel Designer installation of our sister company in Germany whenever you get ready to order your design. Schaeffer-AG Download
This way your order from the Netherlands goes directly to Schaeffer in Germany and will not have to take the detour over our server in the US.

The main problem with importing dxf files is problems with failure warnings about "not closed contours". If you encounter this problem you can try a simple detour:
1. Import the dxf file in Corel draw and export it to a Hpgl file ( .plt)
2. Import this in FPD as an engraving object.
3. Export the FPD design as a DXF file
4. Import this file into QCad and remove the panel outline
5. Save this as a R12 DXF file.
6. Import this file as a contour in FPD.

I placed a test order with Front Panel Express. Their customer service asked me to change the Logo so that it had "Centre Contours" and import as a HPGL. - This approach has gone nowhere!
I have just spent the afternoon, editing the logo on Corel Draw to remove the contours, then I went through the process you described above.
I am now able to import the logo a free contour in FPD - However I seem to have some scaling issues.
Is there any way that you can post a working FPD Ncore logo in the DIY Audio Forums?
