I wish to have a panel done in such a way that I can illuminate the lettering from behind.
I was thinking that a painted piece of acrylic might work
Does anyone have experience with this type of thing? what products or process did you use?

I'll second this. I'm interested in designing panels for a simulator cockpit. From what I've seen, they are able to illuminate the lettering by painting one side of a clear acrylic plate before milling so that light can pass through the milled portion.
I'd like to know if this can be done through frontpanelexpress.

We just got a couple of backlit samples from our acrylic supplier.
Would you like to be our "guinea pig"? I would like to see how it works in a cockpit. Please contact our customer service at (206)768-0602 to talk about the details.

I'm interested! I'll contact you folks some time this week. I haven't tried out your software yet, and still need to decide which panel to replicate.
