The 'Insert print graphic' b***on is grayed out if the 'Customer provided material' option is enabled, even if that material is anodized aluminium.
However, in the UV printing, Source material topic of the Online Help it states:
"UV printing can in principle be applied to any material. We only guarantee the perfect adhesion of the print on anodized aluminum however. As white is also available as a color, colored panels can also be printed. Under these conditions, it is also possible in principle to carry out UV printing on customer-supplied material."
Can you print on customer supplied anodized aluminium panels?

Unfortunately UV printing is only offered on our material. The statement about printing on customer provided material will be removed since we cannot guarantee the same quality print.

1) install as root (sudo dpkg -i FrontDesign-US-5.1.1-i386.deb)
2) start from menu Graphics ...
3) create new panel (only icon are active, everything in menu does not do anything)
4) cannot save (save opend dialog, can browse directories, enter name, but does not save anything, no error is shown, everything looks ok, but file is not saved - even * is still after the file name indicating not saved)
5) cannot even exit (clicking x, crtl-q, all do nothing, have to kill from konsole)
Looks like very nice and usefull tool, but without saving is useless ...

Oki, I have found it can save designs on Kubuntu 12.04 (laptop) ... so the problem has to be some missing/broken gtk lib/config in Kubuntu 14.04
still curious, why there is no error in 14.04, will update later ...

oki, found the problem ...
the package "kgtk-qt3-trinity" is causing this problem
after removal from 14.04.5 LTS the frontpaneldesigner works ok
[ sudo apt-get remove kgtk-qt3-trinity ]
hope this helps,

I would like to design a panel that has a unique shape. I don't have any previous knowledge of CAD programs that support DXF type file formats, so I have been reading up on the topic. Do you recommend some simple CAD programs to help me begin to understand the process, and will allow me to design the exterior shape of a panel. Thank you for your support.

I am trying to add a print graphic to a panel, but the color of the graphic follows the color of the plate, which is not what I want.
I saved the file in white for a black panel, but when I insert it on the plate design, it turns black?
How can I change that color, thanks.

Square cutout question:
If I have a b***on that is 10x10mm.
What is the minimum cutout size I can make for it? Given that the minimum corner radius setting for a smooth square appears top be 0.5mm?

I have a couple of panel mounted (single 5/8 in hole) antenna connectors which I would like to be electrically connected to the aluminum panel.
Is it possible mask off anodizing at specific small areas on the rear of the panel?

If you want conductivity I would suggest you choose our anodized/chromated material which is chromated on the backside. Or you can choose to have cavities machined in the areas you need the anodization removed on the backside with our natural anodized material.
