  • 3D printing

    Hello again,

I'm sure by now most of you have herd of or seen the Open Source / DIY 3D printers floating around the internet. I my self will be receiving my 3D kit around February.

I would love to see your software support such a DIY community and allow those that have a RepRap or some other form of Open Source 3D printer be able to print the panel out for inspection before sending the file to you for production.

More than once have I flawed on a design that would have been spotted only if I could have printed the panel out in actual size and test fitting before sending the file off for cutting.

I feel such a proposal would be monumental in the DIY community. I'm sure some would use your software only to print plastic panels, but the attention and advertisement you would receive from such a feat would be huge.

I have been involved in a few DIY/Open Source projects and trust me when I say, It's only going to get better!

  • PDF to PLT on Mac OS X

I have a logo that I want to import into my panel. The only vector graphics software I have is Inkscape, and the .plt export is not working properly for me. Is there any other way to convert a PDF or SVG to the format that Front Panel Designer requires?

    Thanks.

  • Icon or File Open Preview

I would love to see a preview window in the File Open dialog box and if possible have the Icon itself be a preview. Most CAD files and even PDF files will give you a preview inside the file just by looking at the icon.

This makes it easier to find what your looking for when your working with lots of files that have part numbers for names. I just cant remember all of them all of the time, but if I could see the part it would make things flow much faster.

  • DXF import units

I am trying to import a .dxf shape and the import is always in mm. I want inches and cant seem to figure out how to get that. The .dxf was saved with the units as inches.

    Thanks

    Shea

  • FDM Macro File Format - Willing to write a webapp to manage macro contributions

Would you guys be willing to disclose the internal file format of the FDM file? If so, I propose building a small Java web app - database driven of course - that would permit uploading FDM files, merging and downloading FDM files against a database of user contributed Macros.

I'd even settle for getting the FDM file format under Non-Disclosure Agreement - if you are willing to let me build the web application to handle contributions and merges. I have a large number of custom Macro's I've built for the tube audio community, and there is a need to manage these as the FPDesigner only has rudimentary support for managing the FDM file.

Let me know! I'd love to do it.

  • Text in Cavity

Essentially, I would like to "reverse engrave" some text. The effect would be like circle in rectangle cavity, except text instead of a circle. Ive tried to go about this a couple of ways...

1 - Create a .png with outline style text contained in a border and convert to .plt/hplg. When imported, the text and border look alright, except I dont see a way to make any of it a cavity.

2 - Around imported .plt, create multiple engravings to cover/surround the area around the text. Not entirely efficient.

    Thanks for your help!
